Over the past decade innovative technology has made a huge difference to the lives of people with cerebral palsy (CP) and like disabilities. However, this technology can be very expensive and out of reach for most families.
We are proud to say, with the support of the wider community we have funded over $1.5 million in specialised equipment for individuals like wheelchairs and walkers and special projects at The Centre through our never ending Wish List.
With a child being born every 15 hours with CP in Australia there is an increased need for wider support to fund outstanding items from the Wish List to give children like Beth the opportunity to reach her potential.
Nine year old Beth is just one of many children who has benefited from The Centre’s Wish List. Her cutting edge Walkaide was funded by the Point Walter Ladies Golf Club Associates through their Charity Golf Day.
This innovative technology sends electrical impulses through nerves in Beth’s leg to stimulate the activation of muscles in order to assist her foot clearance, enabling her to achieve more function and independent walking patterns. This exciting new technology has had a huge impact on Beth’s life, she now has greater access to the community and is able to more fully participate in school, family and social activities. |
