Name: Emily

Age: 6

Suburb: Kingsley

Wants to be: A Vet

Type of CP: Spastic Diplegia

Why do you want to be a Vet?
I would like to be a vet because I love animals and I think it would be fun to look after them.

About me
I love to watch Dora the Explorer and her animal friends Benny the bull, Isa the iguana, Tico the squirrel and Boots the monkey.

I love to cook – helping mum when she is baking and mixing things together.  I love using my hands to feel the ingredients like squishing sand and water to make mud pies.

To what extent does CP present a challenge?
I need help to do just about everything – I can’t really do anything without someone getting it for me or setting it up for me to try and do myself.

How do you overcome these challenges? I have 3 big sisters who are very lovely and helpful.  They play with me and help with playing games, reading books and playing on the computer.

My mum and dad are very helpful and try to give me lots of choices like what I would like to wear each day when they are dressing me or what I would like to eat at mealtimes.

What is one thing you would like people to understand about CP?
I would like people to see me first instead of my disability – like when someone asks my mum if I’d like a drink, they should just ask me!

I don’t like it when people talk about me as if I’m not there.
