Early Intervention Program
The Early Intervention Program (EIP) provides services for infants and children with cerebral palsy aged 0-6 years and their families who live within the metropolitan area of Perth.
The key aims of the EIP are to:
- Provide effective intervention for children from the earliest possible time; and
- Ensure children develop, enhance and maintain skills in their home, pre-primary and community settings.
EIP services are delivered through individualised intervention initiatives that include opportunities for parent support and learning, skill development for the child, and active support for the child and staff in childcare and pre-primary settings.
The EIP team includes occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech pathologists, training assistants and social workers, all of whom operate within a family centred model.
EIP has developed a number of resources and fact sheets and these can be found here.
In order to be eligible for the EIP, a child must be 0-6 years old and have cerebral palsy according to the criteria set out in the Cerebral Palsy Register as determined by The Centre for Cerebral Palsy's Children's Services Referral Team.
The Children's Services Referral Team consists of the manager of the Early Intervention Programme and senior social workers that work with a child's paediatrician in order to determine if The Centre for Cerebral Palsy is the service agency that is most likely to be able to meet the individual needs of a child and their family.
