School's Out, What Next?

During September 2006, The Centre for Cerebral Palsy's adolescent team hosted a 'School's Out! What next?' Forum at the Boulevard Centre in Floreat.

The Forum was planned as a way for young people and their families to gain relevant information and to help them prepare for the transition from school to the broader community.

Representatives from a variety of post-school service providers, offering services including accomodation options, workplace supports, alternatives to employment, recreation, further education and financial assistance, were on hand to answer questions and provide information to the families.

Attendees and their families were encouraged to meet with a variety of service providers to discuss possible options for when they leave school. Agencies represented at the forum included The Centre for Cerebral Palsy, Centrelink, Post School Options, ACTIV, TAFE WA and Recreation Network to name a few.

The event was well attended by both families and agencies with families reporting that the forum was useful in helping them gain information and plan for their future. The Centre for Cerebral Palsy will continue to host this valuable event on a yearly basis.
