Student Volunteer Neighbourhood Programme

The Student Volunteer Neighbourhood Participation Programme encourages secondary students to take an active role within their neighbourhood by volunteering out of school hours.

Many young people have a great combination of energy, enthusiasm and abilities, and are able to make a very positive impact on the lives of people with disabilities by assists The Centre's staff in supporting clients and/or assisting with general duties.

Volunteering with our clients and staff provides young people with an opportunity to gain an insight into a different way of living and the chance to learn new skills and valuable on the job experience.

We have a range of volunteer opportunities available throughout the metropolitan area for students that are looking for an opportunity to make a difference and can demonstrate the maturity required to work within the disability sector.

As it is extremely important that students are properly prepared and supported for their volunteer involvement we conduct an induction and orientation programme that includes:

  • The Centre's staff visiting the student's school in order to discuss volunteer opportunities, where they are and what they involve;
  • Viewing a video entitled "See The Person Not The Problem";
  • Completing a Student Community Service Form;
  • Receiving a Student Volunteer Welcome Pack;
  • Providing the opportunity for the student's parent and/or School Supervisor to inspect the facility that they will be attending and meet the staff they will be working with;
  • On the job training provided by The Centre's staff;
  • Staff supervision; and
  • Regular communication between all parties concerned.

    For further information on the programme, please contact the Human Resource Officer on (08) 9443 0202 or (08) 9443 0232.  Alternatively email jobs@tccp.com.au.
